Introduction Flagstaff is located in North Arizona with a population of 58,213 in 2006. It is the county seat of Coconino County. It is known as the “ City of Pines”. The community was named for a pine tree made into a flagpole in 1876 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The Grand Canyon is Flagstaff's most famous destination. Some other wonders that surround Flagstaff are red rocks of Sedona, Meteor Crater, the San Francisco Peaks, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the Wupatki ruins, Sunset Crater, and numerous Native American communities. Flagstaff enjoys a pleasant weather all round the year. It experiences about 300 days of sunshine annually. Thunder showers are common from July to September and it receives snowfall from December to March.
