Arizona : Administration

Arizona is the 16th state of United States located in the southwestern region. Alaska is considered a part of western United States and the mountain west. Arizona became a part of U.S in 1912. The Arizona legislature is bicameral with thirty members representing Senate and sixty members representing the House of Representatives. Each of the thirty legislatives contains one Senate and two representatives. Legislators are elected for four years terms. The term of each legislature is of two years with the first session known as the general election and the second is known as the second regular session. The President of the Senate and Speaker of the House, by rule, may extend the session up to seven additional days. The session can only be extended by majority of members votes. The state Executive branch of Arizona is headed by the governor who is elected for a four-year term. Arizona is among one of those states that do not maintain a governor’s mansion. Arizona also does not have a specified lieutenant governor. The Arizona Supreme Court which is the highest Supreme Court in Arizona comes under the state judicial branch. Currently the court consists of one chief justice, a vice chief justice, and three associate justices. Justices are elected by the governor from a recommended list given by the bi-partisan cameral and they are elected after every two years. The Supreme Court has appellate jurisdiction in death penalty cases, but other cases go through the Arizona Court of Appeals. The court may declare laws unconstitutional, but only while seated en banc. The Arizona Court of Appeals contains four sections. Phoenix is the first division consisting if sixteen judges and has jurisdiction in the Western and Northern regions of the state, along with the greater Phoenix area. Division two is based in Tucson consisting of six judges and has jurisdiction over the southern region of United States. The county of Arizona has a superior court, the size and organization vary.
